About Rita Noe and Her Digigraphs
ritajnoe.com sells eye-catching digital prints created by contemporary artist and photographer, Rita Noe. In art, types of printmaking methods are almost always suffixed with “graph,” which means “to write” in Greek. Serigraphy (or screen printing) was Rita's specialization for more than 30 years. She made the shift to digital art in 1998. In order to retain the traditional concept of printmaking, she coined the term “digigraph.”
Rita's passion for the visual arts was born out of an innate gift. As a small child, she exhibited a talent for drawing. When she found a true mentor, her high school art teacher, she was pushed to follow her gift.
Education and Employment Background
Rita attended Keokuk (Iowa) Senior High School and graduated in 1961. She then pursued a bachelor's degree in Art Education and a master's degree in Art from the University of Northern Iowa, which she completed respectively in 1965 and 1970.
For most of her career, Rita was primarily a teacher. From 1966 to 1978, she worked as an art teacher at Keokuk Senior High School, returning to work alongside her mentor. In addition, she taught college level courses in Art Appreciation, Art History, and Photography.
Afterwards, she found work as a staff photographer at The Daily Gate City ™. Following a four-year stint there, she started her own graphic design and communications business, Shagbark Studio, Inc. The company operated from 1982 to 2004. Since then, Rita has been a self-employed visual artist. Rita is also the founder and executive director emeritus of Keokuk Sister Cities Association, Inc, a position she held from 1991 to 2015.
Pablo Picasso once said, "All art is a lie— a lie that makes you realize the truth." Rita's images are intended to evoke a human feeling, rather than be an attempt to recreate reality. The only realities that exist in her work are paper and ink. Her fascination with all of creation, from the minutest detail to the broadest expanse, lends her a distinct perspective. Rita is grateful to have been given an insatiable appetite for discovering the beauty that surrounds her, as well as the ability to express that beauty in visual form. It is what sets her soul free.
